OAK CREEK — Longtime maker of flavored sodas Black Bear Bottling announced it will close its doors in less than two months.

Black Bear Bottling Group LLC informed the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development on Wednesday it will shutter its facility at 2025 S. Branch Blvd. in Oak Creek. As a result of the anticipated Sept. 15 closing, about 76 people will lose their jobs. The DWD and its regional workforce partners the Employ Milwaukee Rapid Response team will offer rapid response services to the affected workers.

According to the notice sent to the DWD, Black Bear Bottling has been placed in receivership by court order.

Black Bear Bottling was formed in 1920 and has been operated by the Caruso family since 1961. According to the company’s website, “it all began when a beverage craftsman made a little black bear cub a beloved pet on his Wisconsin property, he knew he had to pay tribute in some way.”

The Black Bear Bottling Group produces quality traditional and customized beverages for regional and national brands.
