Angela Knutson, a mother of three from Jackson, said she and her husband, Jamie, were drawn to the idea of starting a family company so their children could have a first-hand exposure to launching and running a small business.

That’s when the couple came up with the idea to create Yardley Expressions — which offers a 24-hour sign rental display for special occasions.

“We got the idea to start this business after my husband saw a friend of ours post a picture on Facebook of a yard greeting that they had purchased for their daughter’s birthday,” Angela said. “We looked into the business and thought that the concept would be ideal for our area. After a great deal of preparation, we planned our opening for spring of 2017.”

Jamie said, “if you have driven around Washington County, you may have seen some of our signs in yards as well as in front of parks and churches.”

Angela said the company’s goal is to make people smile.

“We maintain a large inventory of high-quality, custom-made, corrugated vinyl all-weather signs. This allows us to offer customized messages with very little lead time,” Angela said. “We can even accommodate same-day requests. We work with customers to create a fun message that can be personalized with a name, age, favorite sport or hobby. We take care of delivery, set up and picking up the signs the following day, which is generally after a 24-hour period."

Travelers may have spotted this sign recently posted in the yard of a Jackson area home. The sign, “Fight like a Girl,” was posted to encourage some local twins in their fight against leukemia. The sign was created by Yardley Expressions, owned by Angela and Jamie Knutson of Jackson. Angela said the business has done some fun signs over the past three months, and has enjoyed the happiness they bring to people.

“Our most popular requests are for birthdays, but we have also done graduations, Mother’s Day and other celebrations,” Angela said. “Some of our most memorable signs have been: ‘Fight like a Girl,’ for local twins conquering leukemia; ‘Strawberry Fest 2017’ in Cedarburg was a huge hit for photo ops; and a ‘40 is fine when you look 29,’ which was recently displayed on my front lawn for my birthday. We can spell any phrase you want.”

Jamie and Angela have three children, Emma, 15, Lilly, 12, and Tanner, 6, and they are observing how the business is run.

“The children are also helping us in the set up and the take down of the signs,” Jamie said.

The couple said they’ve had a lot of positive feedback.

“Given that Washington County is such a child-friendly place with strong family values, great schools and continued growth, I believe that this is an ideal location for this fun business,” Angela said. “We also service areas surrounding Washington County, such as Waukesha and Ozaukee County. As noted on our Yardley Expressions website, ‘There is always an occasion to make someone’s day and our goal is to make people smile.’” For more information, the company’s website is www.yardleyexpressions.com.You can also reach Yardley Expressions by calling 262-423-7999.
