WAUKESHA — After a week full of family-friendly activities, from trick-or-treating to tequila tastings, Casa del Rio has successfully finished its grand reopening.

The Gonzalez and Chacon families recently decided to come out of retirement, and co-owner Nancy Gonzalez says Casa del Rio was inundated with both longtime guests and new ones.

“We’ve been practicing a lot to get used to the amount of people that I knew we would have,” said Gonzalez. “I don’t think I heard one complaint, although it was a little harder for some of the new workers.”

Although there was a blend of both staff members who had worked at Casa del Rio before its four-year hiatus and members who are new to the crew, Gonzalez says everyone was able to keep up. There were also a few adjustments made to ease new staff members into the process.

“We had to eliminate some stuff off the menu, because we’re trying to make things easy for staff,” said Gonzalez. “Little by little, we do plan on adding some more things as the staff does become more comfortable. We want to mostly try newer things.”

As for future changes, she added that Casa del Rio hopes to expand upon its bar business to attract more people who might enjoy an afternoon cocktail. Gonzalez says there are already plans in the works to have extended happy hour times on the weekends and to bring in a larger assortment of alcoholic beverages.

For now, she says, it was enjoyable to get back into the groove of things.

“It was great,” said Gonzalez. “I tell you one thing though, I was really tired and I really know how old I am. I don’t think we’ll do it in another 20 years, because that will make me over 10, so I’ll have to pass on that.”
