BROOKFIELD — Babies “R” Us is expected to shutter its store near Brookfield Square Mall on March 31, according to a company spokeswoman.

The store, located at 18550 W. Bluemound Road, was on a list of up to 182 Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us locations across the country that will close this year. On that list, released late last month, was the Babies “R” Us at 2161 Zeier Road in Madison.

Parent company Toys “R” Us filed for bankruptcy in September after slow sales partly due to increased online competition from Amazon, Walmart and Target.

The nationwide closures this year will amount to 20 percent of the company’s retail space.
