GLENDALE — After an anonymous letter was sent to the press describing layoffs of 1,000 Ascension Health employees in Wisconsin, company officials have declined to say whether anyone will actually be losing their jobs this week.

“We continually review staffing models to ensure of our resources, while providing the highest quality and most compassionate care as is consistent with our Mission,” said Ascension Wisconsin spokeswoman Caryn Kaufman. “At this time, we have no information to share regarding personnel matters.”

The letter, sent to The Freeman on Tuesday from a “current employee in leadership,” said Ascension Health “is failing miserably” and 1,000 employees in Wisconsin would be let go this week, even after 2,000 were laid off last year.

It also said Ascension, based in St. Louis, Missouri, would be cutting 1,500 employees in Michigan.

Kaufman declined to comment on whether any of the accusations in the letter were true.
