TOWN OF OCONOMOWOC — The Town of Oconomowoc Plan Commission passed a request Monday night to allow The Cupola to add an additional 60 parking spaces, rather than the initial 100 the business owners had requested.

The Cupola is a venue located at N88W35490 Mapleton Road in the Town of Oconomowoc that hosts wedding ceremonies and other events.

The commission heard the motion for 100 spaces from owner David Vecellio at the Feb. 19 meeting. At the same meeting, other residents on Mapleton Road, which doubles as Highway CW, voiced their concerns over the plan and said the lighting would cause problems.

Commission Chairman Robert Peregrine said the Plan Commission ordered the lights be turned off when the barn isn’t in use.

In the approval was a requirement that if The Cupola ceases operation at the barn, the business needs to remove the impervious surface east of the barn.

The commission also limited The Cupola to only one access point to Highway CW.

The commission learned about a conceptual plan to The Waters at Okauchee, a four-unit condominium project.

The commission didn’t vote on the plan, but typically hears plans for projects like this so the developers have a chance to save money and are out in front of things the commission might have problems with.

“It looks like a good fit for that piece,” Peregrine said. “They still have more work to do with other people, such as the county.”
