Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly worked with MobCraft beer to create a citrus shandy — a wheat ale including grapefruit, orange, lemon, lime and honey — after a Glendale woman's idea was selected from an online contest.

Chrissy Jacobson lives in Glendale but has a cabin near Slinger and regularly shops at Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly in Slinger.

'I like limes, lemons, grapefruit and honey,' Jacobson said. 'So I thought if I combine them all it might make a great tasting beer. The brewer knew exactly what they were doing and what would taste well together and how to mix it, so I have to give credit to them as well for putting it all together.'

Fox. Bros.' People's Choice Brat contest proved a creative way to come up with new bratwurst varieties, so joining with MobCraft Beer on the Craft Beer Contest was fitting.

Fox Bros. invited costumers to submit ideas on a summer beer, then narrowed the options to four types. After hundreds of votes via email, Facebook and in store, Jacobson won by one vote.

David Dickleman, marketing and merchandising manager of Fox Bros., said the contest was a way to get costumers involved.

'Last fall Foxtoberfest ended up being our winner,' he said. 'So it was an Octoberfest beer, extremely popular, partnership went extremely well. And we got thinking about it this summer.'

Jacobson said she was in shock when she found out her submission won.

'I haven't won anything this big before so it was actually a big honor that people had voted for me and I was extremely happy,' she said.

Dickleman said it's possible the company could have a contest for a winter beer, but for now they will continue the brat contest.

Jacobson said 'If they have any other contests I will probably play along.

'I think a lot of people submitted ideas, I think a lot of people want to try different products,' she said. 'We all have fun doing it and we vote and people come to the store and can see someone actually winning.'

Jacobson said she got to meet the Fox brothers for a party at MobCraft beer.

'We went to the MobCraft Brewery and got a tour from the owner of the brewery and that's where I got to try the beer for the first time,' she said. 'I actually won a kegerator (a mini fridge/keg combination) and a half keg of beer from that. So they gave me the tour of how they made it and I think it was 60 gallons of lime zest and all of the fruit that they put into there, so that was pretty neat.'

Citrus Shandy is available in six packs of 12 ounce cans at the Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly stores as well as the MobCraft Beer taproom in Milwaukee.
