MEQUON — Bear Arms, billed by its owners as Ozaukee County’s first indoor boutique shooting range, opened for business Wednesday.

Bear Arms, 9653 N. Granville Road, offers gun enthusiasts a place to hone their shooting skills and socialize, as well as shop in a unique boutique of shooting accessories, clothing, and skin care products for men and women. Bear Arms is open to the public, offers memberships and provides special discounts for local law enforcement agencies, military personnel and veterans, according to a news release.

A grand-opening event is planned for sometime next month; details will be announced soon, owners Cheryle and Mark Rebholz said in the news release.

Bear Arms has a state-of-the-art Virtual Simulator. This professional simulation system, used by military special operations and law enforcement personnel for training, will offer Bear Arms patrons a broad array of self-defense scenarios and gaming simulations for individual practice sessions, as well as group training and social events, the news release added.

“We will offer our members a unique blend of hands-on gun training for all skill levels, combined with social and recreational activities that promote camaraderie and a fun atmosphere for learning and shooting. In addition, members will enjoy our boutique stocked with unique clothing, accessories for shooting and skin care products for outdoor enthusiasts,” Cheryle Rebholz said. “My goal is to create the premiere shooting and personal self-defense facility in Wisconsin.”

She said the inspiration for Bear Arms came after she obtained her concealed-carry license and was frustrated that there was no range nearby for her to maintain firearm proficiency. As an aesthetician in Mequon for 20 years, incorporating beauty products into her passion for firearm safety was a natural, albeit unique, marriage of interests.

Some of the classes that will be offered include gun safety, concealed-carry license training, hunter safety, personal protection and conflict avoidance.

A comfortable guest lounge with large LED flatscreen television is adjacent to the main lobby and boutique.

Bear Arms will be supervised by employees who have earned the National Rifle Association safety officer certification, and there is an experienced gunsmith on staff to assist individuals with personal firearm maintenance. Customers must provide identification before using the range.

Located in the former Bulk Petroleum Corp. building on Mequon’s far southwest side, Bear Arms showcases the latest state-of the-art design by Utah-based Action Target. The range environment is secure, well-lit, and ventilated to meet regulations. There will be eight lanes available for shooting, including two lanes that will accommodate long guns. Gun rentals are available.
