WAUKESHA — Walmart is suing Mukwonago over a perceived excess property value assessment of over $5 million, according to a civil suit filed to Waukesha County Circuit Court on Friday.

The village attorney of Mukwonago, Mark Blum, could not be reached for comment.

According to the suit, Walmart claims the property at 250 E. Wolf Run is worth no more than $9.250 million, not $14.394 million, as the village assessor’s office claims.

Walmart argues in the suit that the village’s property assessment is excessive and the tax imposed was equally excessive.

“Walmart is entitled to a refund of the 2018 taxes paid as may be determined to be due to Walmart, plus statutory interest,” the suit states.

The suit from the retail giant claims the the 2018 assessment of the property was “not uniform with the assessment of other properties in the Village and State and therefore, violates the Uniformity Clause of the Wisconsin Constitution.”

A hearing date has yet to be scheduled.
