MILWAUKEE — Cafe Centraal in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood will be closed for about a month while owner Lowlands Group completes a renovation of the restaurant.

The restaurant will close Jan. 2 with a scheduled reopening planned for early February.

Cafe Centraal first opened in September of 2008. Other Lowlands Group restaurants have also undergone recent renovations, including Cafe Hollander locations in Wauwatosa and on the East Side, as well as Cafe Benelux in the Third Ward. The work at Cafe Centraal will be more extensive than these previous projects, according to a news release.

Planned updates include expanding the kitchen substantially, adding new food and beverage coolers and freezers in the basement, refinishing the flooring, redesigning the bar with a dramatic increase the number of draught lines, and a visual update throughout the space.

The food and drink menus will also be updated.
