BROOKFIELD — Construction is underway and on track to be completed by summer for the new 45,000-square-foot Whirly-Ball facility at Brookfield Square Mall.

The new location, 95 Moorland Road, will partially take over the space at the mall where Sears once stood. This will be WhirlyBall’s fifth location nationwide and its first location in the state.

“We’re honored to join the Brookfield community and we look forward to providing a new experience for both locals and visitors to enjoy,” said Adam Elias, WhirlyBall’s vice president of strategic planning.

The game of WhirlyBall is played almost like a combination of lacrosse, hockey and basketball — all on bumper cars. Two opposing teams of five face off in their bumper cars armed with handheld scoops. Players then must maneuver the bumper cars to scoop up a whiffle ball and pass it to teammates in the hopes to score a goal.

The Brookfield location will contain two Whirly-Ball courts, eight bowling lanes, a multi-level laser tag arena and a full-service 75-seat restaurant and bar with a patio terrace.

WhirlyBall first opened its doors 25 years ago in Lombard, Ill. They now have locations in Vernon, Ill., Chicago and Colorado Springs, Colo.
