BIG BEND — Construction of Connoils LLC’s new building is well underway with the shell of the building almost complete, said Mike Duffek, principle of Duffek Construction.

“The precasted steel is complete and we’re working on roofing and framing now,” Duffek said. “Our goal is to complete it this spring in May.”

Connoils is a global manufacturer and distributor of natural, organic and nutritional internally stabilized bulk oils, oil powders, soft gels and specialty ingredients, according to the company website. With its new facility, the company plans to enter the production of cannabidiol (CBD), which in part entails producing industrial hemp, company owner and Big Bend native Stacy Peterson previously told a Freeman reporter.

By February of 2019, the company will move its operations from a 7,300-square-foot building on W24-S4145 Pine Hollow Court in the Town of Waukesha to a 25,000 square-foot building near Interstate 43 and Guthrie School Road in Big Bend.

The Big Bend Village Board approved the multimillion dollar international company’s new facility over the summer.

Village Clerk Brad Calder previously told a Freeman reporter the first phase of the company’s project has an estimated assessed value of $4 million and could bring as much as $34,000 in tax revenue for the village.

The village has long had difficulties developing the I43/Highway 164 corridor due to the lack of sewer and water. However, Village President James Soneberg previously told a Freeman reporter the development will become a showpiece in the community to attract other investors to Big Bend.

“We’ve had a lot of interest in that intersection and hope we continue to have growth in that area,” said Jeff Goodman, village trustee.
