Erin Hills named a top golf course

TOWN OF ERIN ó Erin Hills Golf Course moved up two spots and landed at No. 42 on Golf Digestís 100 greatest U.S. golf course rankings, which includes private and public courses.

According to Golf Digestís website, the outlet publishes a ranking of the top golf course every two years and has done so since 1966.

Erin Hills, according to a Golf Digestís rankings panelist, ďMany courses are architecturally interesting. Many are great tests of championship golf. This course combines the two on a big, bold scale. Lots of interesting choices of biting off corners versus playing it safer.Ē

In 2017, Erin Hills became the first course in Wisconsin to host the menís U.S. Open championship. It has also hosted the 2008 U.S. Womenís Publinks and the 2011 U.S. Menís Amateur.

At No. 1 was Pine Valley in New Jersey. At No. 2 was Augusta National, the host of the annual Masters Tournament, in Georgia.

The rest of the top 10 includes Cypress Point Club (Pebble Beach, California), Shinnecock Hills (Southampton, New York), Oakmont (Plum, Pennsylvania), Merion-East (Ardmore, Pennsylvania), Pebble Beach (California), National Golf Links of America (Southampton, New York), Sand Hills (Mullen, Nebraska) and Fishers Island Club (New York).

Three other courses in Wisconsin made the list ó Whistling Straits (No. 21), the Milwaukee Country Club (No. 74) and Blackwolf Run (No. 97).

In 2017, Erin Hills was ranked No. 8 on the public-course-only list.
