WAUKESHA — Firehouse Subs and Verizon Wireless are the latest businesses to express interest in locating at a new strip mall at the corner of North Grandview Boulevard and Silvernail Road, according to city planning staff.

The five-storefront development — located near the recently completed Panda Express — is still under construction, but so far at least three business have pulled sign permits to locate there: Great Clips, Firehouse Subs and Verizon Wireless.

On Friday, a spokeswoman for Firehouse Subs confirmed that franchisees Kurt Kloba and Bill Rowe, were behind what would be Waukesha’s second Firehouse Subs location.

The city’s first Firehouse Subs, which is run by different franchisees, opened in April 2017 at 180 E. Sunset Drive.

Rowe and Kloba, who together own Firehouse Subs locations in New Berlin and Menomonee Falls, are expected open their Grandview Boulevard and Silvernail Road location this summer, said Vanessa De La Viña, local public relations manager for Firehouse Subs. They plan to hire between 15 and 20 employees for the new location, with hiring expected to begin in early May, De La Viña wrote in an email.

A portion of every purchase made in Firehouse Subs restaurants is donated to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which provides life-saving equipment and education opportunities to first responders and public safety organizations across the country. Last year, the foundation awarded more than $24,000 to the New Berlin Fire Department.
