Customers line up at the
George Webb Restaurant located at Shorewood and Oakland
for the first burger giveaway in 1987.
CITY OF PEWAUKEE — To
coincide with the Brewers Opening Day, George Webb
Restaurants is bringing back a fan favorite promotion —
5 for $5.
When the Milwaukee Brewers team scores five or more runs
— home or away, win or lose — all 30 George Webb
locations will offer five burgers for $5 through
midnight the following day. George Webb, the
restaurant’s namesake and founder, opened his first
diner in 1948 on the corner of Ogden and Van Buren in
Milwaukee. He also launched unique marketing, including
if the hometown team would win 12 games in a row, he
would grill free hamburgers.
To this day, George Webb continues to honor its
founder’s legendary pledge, with the first-ever giveaway
occurring in 1987. The second giveaway took place just
last year when the team caught fire shortly before the
postseason and embarked on a 12-game winning streak.
“Last season brought us an opportunity to celebrate and
fulfill the promise of our founder with the next
generation of fans,” said Ryan Stamm, vice president of
George Webb Restaurants. “This season, we hope to see
another year of twelve straight wins and will be ready
to once again fire up the grill!”
