WEST BEND — Kwik Trip is planning to break ground on a new south-side gas station and convenience store next year.

The building would go at the corner of East Paradise Drive and South River Road, on West Bend’s far southeast side. Documents filed with the city’s Plan Commission — which approved a conditional use permit and site plan tied to the proposal Wednesday night — would occupy a lot where a Citgo gas station now sits.

James Reinke, the city’s business and development planner, said the company still needs a few more rounds of approval before launching the project, which he said would likely involve a teardown of the existing gas station before Kwik Trip would construct its own facilities.

In the documents filed with the city, Kwik Trip said plans include a car wash and a convenience store attached to the gas station. The store, the company has added, would create between 20 and 25 new jobs.

The company said it could begin construction on the new site by 2020, though Reinke and West Bend Mayor Kraig Sadownikow both said this week the project could begin even sooner if subsequent approval processes move smoothly.

“Timing’s really up to them,” Reinke said.

“It’s good to see that Kwik Trip still has a growing interest in West Bend,” Sadownikow said.
