WAUKESHA — LifeCare Hospitals of Wisconsin in Waukesha will lay off 171 workers after it closes its doors indefinitely.

The hospital, located at 2400 Gold Road in Waukesha, sited regulatory pressures and declining volumes as reasons for closing, according to a press release.

“Like many other long-term acute care hospitals, our facility faces growing regulatory pressures, declining volumes and decreased reimbursements,” the press release states. “After careful consideration of every available option, it has become clear we can no longer sustain the continued losses and have no choice but to close our doors.”

Employees’ last day will be June 23. Patient care will continue until all patients are discharged or transferred to another facility, according to a press release.
