WAUKESHA — Paul M. Fischer, CPA, PhD, an Oconomowoc resident and professor of accounting at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, received the 2019 Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants Accounting Educator Award at the organization’s Member Recognition Banquet & Annual Business Meeting held May 9 in Waukesha.

“The credit for choosing to become an accounting educator goes to Professor Emeritus Leer (UW–Milwaukee), who motivated me by example, and Associate Dean Blakely
(UW-Madison), who insisted I remain in Madison to complete a PhD,” said Fischer. “I am blessed to have taught more than 15,000 students over 50 years in Milwaukee.”

The Accounting Educator Award is one of 10 annual Excellence Awards that celebrate WICPA members for their achievements. This award recognizes an accounting or business educator for their contributions in academia and the accounting profession. Recipients have demonstrated innovative techniques in teaching and motivating students.

In partnership with Professor William J. Taylor, Fischer offered a CPA Review course to 4,000 students over 25 years. Fischer, Professor Taylor and Professor Emeritus Jerry Leer co-authored the textbook, “Advanced Accounting.”
