PEPIN - Residents of Laura Ingalls Wilder's birthplace in northwestern Wisconsin will be celebrating her life next weekend.

Wilder was born in the hills near Pepin in 1867. "Little House in the Big Woods" was set in Pepin and launched a nine-book "Little House" series that made her a household name.

The fictionalized stories track the family's life and travels in Wisconsin, Missouri, Kansas, Minnesota and South Dakota.

The Laura Ingalls Wilder Days Festival on Saturday and Sunday includes guided bus tours to her birth site, demonstrations of blacksmithing, woodworking, hand-spinning and quilting as well as a contest where fans demonstrate their Wilder knowledge.

Wilder died in 1957 at the age of 90.
