FOND DU LAC - More than 500
Fond du Lac residents are still waiting for mail that was
soaked by last month's floodwaters.
The Fond du Lac River
overflowed on June 12, leaving a foot of water in the post
office.
The flooding damaged
packages and letters belonging to people who had placed
their mail on hold. The mail can't be delivered now
because of health concerns.
Postmaster Jean Moore says
each piece of damaged mail will have to be opened and
inspected to determine whether the contents can be passed
on to the customer. She says it might be possible to
deliver photocopies of the originals.
Because the mail will have
to be opened, the U.S. Postal Service has to get approval
from the Department of Homeland Security. That could
happen this week.
