CROSSE - A La Crosse woman who admitted she allowed her
newborn baby to die has been sentenced to six months in jail
and four years of probation.
Twenty-year-old Indra Book
was sentenced Thursday. She pleaded no contest in June to a
charge of second-degree reckless homicide.
Prosecutors say she gave
birth alone in a bathtub in August 2007, then failed to
provide proper care for the newborn, knowing it would die
without attention.
Authorities say she hid the
newborn's body in a plastic cooler and put the container
between two garages. It was later placed in the trash and
has not been found.
