LeRoy W. ‘Red’ Miller

LeRoy W. "Red" Miller, 83, formerly of Dousman and Kiel, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, in Forest Lake, Minn., where he’s resided since the death of his wife in October 2001.

He was born in Dousman in April of 1922, a son of the late Walter and Lucille (nee Zick) Miller. Red served in the U.S. Army during World War II from March 1943 to November 1945. He received several medals during his tour including Expert Rifleman, Good Conduct and Pacific War Zone, two Bronze Stars for Bravery, a Purple Heart and the Philippine Liberation.

On April 4, 1978, he married Beverly Huck in Dousman. She preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 2001.

Red was former owner of Miller Farm Implement, president of Miller Grain Drying Inc., president of Dousman Leasing and a former partner in Hensel & Miller Excavating. His many civic accomplishments in Dousman included serving as village trustee, president of the board of appeals and as the village president. He served on the Dousman Fire Department for 50 years, was past president of the Dousman Lions Club and past commander of the Dousman American Legion Post 405.

He is survived by his son, Ron (Joanne) Miller of Forest Lake; two daughters, Donna Peterman of Woodruff and Debra (Bruce) Hymes of St. Charles, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Deborah Roerdink of New Holstein and Diana Kelley of Waupun; his grandchildren, Caryn (J.) Faignant, Tim (Anne) Miller, Scott Miller, Cale and Ryan Young, Kimberly Klingbeil, Amber Klingbeil, Bobbie Jo Boehlen, Andrea, Ashley and Amanda Boehlen; eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Edward (Annette) Miller of Hartland; and a sister, Marcy Clark of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; and a stepson, Jerry Boehlen Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 36821 Sunset Drive (Highway 18) Dousman. The Rev. Nancy Hawkins will officiate. Friends may call from noon until the time of the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the Ottawa Cemetery in Dousman.

A memorial service is also being held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at Birchwood Arbors, NE 1st St., Forest Lake, Minn., with the Rev. Norman Baagas and the Rev. Dale Engen officiating.
