Ida ‘Idie’ May Mickel

Ida "Idie" May Mickel of Henderson, Nev., formerly of the town of Genesee, passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, just a few weeks short of her 88th birthday. She was born Jan. 14, 1918, one of four children to Henry and Gertrude Brust, and was later married to Harvey Mickel on July 8, 1939, at the Evangelical & Reformed United Church of Christ in Waukesha.

She worked for many years at the Genesee Depot Bank and the Waukesha Veterinary Clinic, and was also an avid square dancer and square dance caller. She and her husband greatly enjoyed camping and traveling. In her later years, Idie served as a volunteer worker at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

Idie was a devoted wife and mother of three children. She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia (Wayne) Becker of Waupaca and Candie (Roy) Peterson of Henderson; four granddaughters, Lisa (David) Smit of Ann Arbor, Mich., Heather (Rod) Flemming of McFarland, Jennifer Peterson of Henderson and Gretchen (Ken) Hazel of Alpharetta, Ga.; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol (Bill) Bloede of Waukesha; a brother, Henry (Dorothy) Brust of Roseville, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Gwen Martzke of Shawano; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; her son, George; and a sister, Betty (Harley) Gott.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Dec. 31, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. Burial will take place at North Prairie Cemetery.
