Daniel Herman Carstens

March 23, 1916 - Nov. 6, 2005

Daniel Herman Carstens of Queen Creek, Ariz., passed away peacefully at home Sunday morning, Nov. 6, 2005. Daniel was born March 23, 1916, in Waukesha, to Daniel and Bertha (nee Orlufski) Carstens. He lived in Waukesha most of his life.

He was a veteran of World War II. After returning home, he was employed by Shannon Floor Co. of Milwaukee. Later he opened his own business, Daniel Carstens Interiors, on Sunset Drive in Waukesha.

On Oct. 3, 1940, he married Oleta Ketter. Together they raised two sons and a daughter. Oleta passed away in 1975.

Daniel retired from his store in 1979 and started doing more of what he loved best, hunting, fishing and shooting. As an outdoors man, Daniel loved his dogs. He raised and trained many throughout his life. He was kind to all animals but had a special place in his heart for his dogs.

On March 7, 1982, he married Margaret Kind Graf, who had three sons.

Daniel and Margaret spent many years traveling to Florida in the winter. In summer and fall he hunted in Wisconsin and Canada, and spent many days fishing on Lake Michigan, Lake Erie and in Canada with his brother and his friends. Dan lived his life to the fullest, doing what he loved best.

He lived in Wisconsin, Arkansas and moved to Queen Creek two years ago to be closer to family. He loved the Arizona weather and would sit outside and watch the golfers from the patio of his golf course home.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Margaret; his three children, Daniel (Diane) Carstens of Waukesha, John (Janet) Carstens of Cornville, Ariz., and Christine (John) Dobbs of California; two granddaughters; and a grandson. He is also survived by Margaret's sons, Paul (Lilli) Graf of Gilbert, Ariz., Steve (Sue) Graf of Waukesha and Carl (Chelley) Graf of De Pere and six grandsons.

Daniel was a devoted husband, an adoring father and a friend to every person that touched his life.

He is loved and will be missed by all. We will never forget you.

Friends and family, please join the celebration of Daniel's life at noon Friday, Nov. 11, in the chapel at Prairie Home Cemetery, 605 S. Prairie Ave., Waukesha.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Humane Animal Welfare Society or a charity of your choice.
