SUN PRAIRIE

Dorothy (Trushinske) Klaus

Feb. 6, 1929 - Oct. 23, 2005

Dorothy (Trushinske) Klaus of Sun Prairie died peacefully Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005. The joy of her life was sharing good books as a teacher, an editor, a children’s librarian and especially as a mother and grandmother.

Dorothy was born in Waukesha on Feb. 6, 1929, to Emil and Caroline "Lee" Trushinske. She began working at the Waukesha Public Library as a teenager. She graduated from Waukesha High School in 1946 and from Carroll College in 1950.

Dorothy taught elementary school in Phelps, Fort Atkinson, Lansing, Mich., and Chicago. During the 40 years she lived in Oak Park, Ill., Dorothy worked on various technical journals and edited textbooks. She assembled several professional libraries, taught adult education classes and then returned to her favorite field, children’s literature, in 1982 as a children’s librarian in Forest Park, Ill. She worked diligently to create programs that children enjoyed, bringing storytellers and other artists to the library, and delighted in assisting children and their families in school projects and recreational reading.

Dorothy married Karl Klaus in 1973. She and Karl enjoyed travel, museums, music and theater. He passed away in 1987. She was especially close to her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, who were thrilled when she moved to Sun Prairie to be near them.

In her last illness, Dorothy was especially blessed by her friendships with Grace, Peggy and Anne who visited her, called and prayed with her and helped her find peace in Christ.

The family also thanks Dorothy’s caregivers, Amy and Darlene, and the staff at HospiceCare Inc. for their help and comfort. We are also grateful for the prayers and assistance of friends at Sun Prairie Community Church.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Eva, and her husband, James Bellinger; her grandchildren, Charles, Nancy, Sandra, Karen and Luke; her brother, Charles (Ruth) Trush; her sister, Marian Doody (Larry Pawlowski); her sister-in-law, Cilla Trush; her nieces, Amy and Gayle; her nephews, David, Paul and John; her cousins and many friends, especially Mary Jean Huelsback and Jeanne Meer of Waukesha.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Trush, and by her husband, Karl Klaus.

Visitation begins at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie. The memorial service begins at 7:30 p.m., with chaplain Robert Groth of HospiceCare officiating. Cremation and interment will be at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Evergreen Park, Ill., with her late husband Karl.
