John Michael Mead

John Michael Mead, 83, of Sister Bay, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at SCAND Nursing Home. John was born Aug. 15, 1922, to T.E. and Lillian (nee Effinger) Mead. He married Delores Geiger on Sept. 18, 1945, at the University Chapel in Madison.

John graduated from Baraboo High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and UW-Madison. He was a member of the U.S. Army and served his country from 1942 to 1945 in the European Theater during World War II. He was injured and received the Purple Heart.

John established Meadís School Towel Service and the coin laundry in Waukesha. He was active in the Waukesha Jaycees, Rotary Club, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks Club and the Ellison Bay Mens Club. He sold his business and retired to Door County in 1980.

He is survived by his wife, Delores; four daughters, Connie (Greg) Brandt, Nancy Jean (Budd) Carr, Jacalyn (David) Nienow and Mary Beth (Zack) Parzyck; two sons, Patrick (Karen) Mead and Michael (Mary) Mead; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Audrey Walch, Eleanor Shelton, Helen Jenkins and Martha Gambrill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Thomas Edward Mead, and three brothers, Gordon, Robert and Thomas.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at St. Rosaliaís Catholic Church in Sister Bay.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Scandia Village Nursing Home or the Parkinsonís Foundation.
