Richard J. ‘Dick’ Nines

Richard J. "Dick" Nines, formerly of Englewood, Fla., died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at age 83.
Dick was born in Green Bay on Nov. 30, 1921, the son of Richard P. and Lena A. Nines. He graduated from Marshfield High School in 1939, enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country from 1940 to 1944, reaching the rank of staff sergeant. Dick graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1948. While in college, he played guard for the Badger’s Big Ten football team.
On June 7, 1947, he married Betty J. (nee Niesen) of Beloit, to whom he was married 57 years.
Following college, Dick taught and coached football at the Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Mo. In 1951, Dick and his family returned to Beloit where he completed a distinguished 30-year business career as a purchasing agent and sales executive. He retired to Englewood in 1983 and returned to Wisconsin after his wife’s passing in October 2004.
He was a 20-year member of Englewood Elks Lodge No. 2378. Dick was an accomplished woodworker and active in the Englewood United Methodist Church. He enjoyed all sports, especially golf and football. He was an avid member of the Englewood Cribbage Club.
Dick is survived by two sons, Lawrence (Vicki) Nines of Waukesha and Charles (Linda) Nines of Clinton; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Florence Harlow of Los Alamos, N.M., Lorna Stonis of Long Beach, Calif., and Nancy Blystone of Marinette.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at First Baptist Church, 617 Public Ave., Beloit. The visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. A private inurnment will take place at Eastlawn Cemetery in Beloit.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Mo., are appreciated.
