Richard James Roe

Richard James Roe, 73, of Suring, died at home Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, following a courageous three-year battle with cancer. He was born in Iron River to the late George and Mable (nee Little) Roe on Jan. 10, 1932.

Richard served his country in the Merchant Marine U.S. Coast Guard. He was a longtime supervisor at Allis Chalmers in West Allis and retired from truck driving in the Appleton/Green Bay area in the mid-1990s. His favorite pastime was playing bingo at Northern Lights Casino.

Survivors include his three daughters and their families, Marylou (Rod) Stelter of Hartford, Rita (Steve) Behl of El Paso, Texas, and Roberta (Timothy) Neitzel of Ixonia; five sons and their families, Richard (Carol) Roe of Greenville, Roland (Marie) Roe of Hudson, Reuben Roe of Dousman, Roderick (Julie) Roe of Jefferson City, Tenn., and Robin (Susan) Roe of Watertown; a brother, Robert (Edith) Roe of Montello; his ex-wife, Rosemary (Don) Megadanz of Watertown; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, Oct. 27, at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home, 116 S. Krueger St., Suring, with the Reverends Dennis and Wendy Mannering officiating. Burial with military honors will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
