Stanton L. ‘Stasch’ Sperl

Stanton L. "Stasch" Sperl of Waukesha died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at LindenGrove Heath Care Center at age 83. Stasch was born Aug. 10, 1922, in New Ulm, Minn., the son of Stanis and Amanda (nee Adam) Sperl.
He married Doris Mae Meidenbauer on May 10, 1952. Stasch was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and four-year veteran of the armed forces during World War II. He retired from the Waukesha School District after 30 years of service and was a previous employee of the Fox Head Brewing Co. He was a 45-year member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America Inc. and was a charter member of the Waukesha County chapter. During his tenure with the society, Stasch received many service awards which included two International Public Relations Awards. He served as a writer, cartoonist and editor within PROBE (Public Relations Officers & Bulleting Editors). He was also a member of Brookfield Highlands Men’s Choir. Stasch loved to sing, write, garden and tell a good story or joke.
Stasch will be sadly missed by his son, Brian Sperl of West Allis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Mae, on Sept. 15, 1987; brothers, Herbert and Chester Hackbarth; and sisters, Hertha Hackbarth Schnobrich and Viola Hackbarth Pfeil.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service Wednesday, April 12, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. Interment will take place at Prairie Home Cemetery immediately following the service.
Memorials in Stasch’s name may be directed to St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 424 Hyde Park Ave., Waukesha.
