James P. ‘Cookie’ Kuchenreuther

James P. "Cookie" Kuchenreuther of Waukesha died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at AngelsGrace Hospice at age 86. Jim was born in Wauwatosa on Aug. 19, 1919, the son of Joseph and Margaret (nee Ebel) Kuchenreuther.

Jim married Gladys V. Smith on July 26, 1941, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Jim was a World War II veteran. He was a member and usher of St. William Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Local 73 Meat Cutters Union. Jim worked as a meat cutter at Sentry for 30 years. He volunteered for Waukesha Humans Services, the Food Panty of Waukesha County and the Waukesha blood center. He was the recipient of the Honored Lifetime Achievement Award in Volunteerism for Waukesha County. His hobby was woodworking and in his youth he excelled in bowling and baseball teams. Jim and Gladys enjoyed visiting nursing homes. He loved and adored his family, always putting them above everything else.

Jim will be sadly missed by his wife of 65 years, Gladys; his children, James (Margaret) Kuchenreuther and Jill (Jeff) Honer; grandchildren, Margaret Kuchenreuther, James (Cindy) Kuchenreuther, Mike (Monique) Honer of Maryland and Steve Honer of Montana; great-grandchildren, MonŽ, Mikie and Mailyn Honer, Melayna and Joseph David Kuchenreuther; his brother, Fred (Gerry) Kuchenreuther; and sisters-in-law, Lillian (Ken) Hekkers and Irene Smith. Jim is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Joseph and Herman; and his grandson, David M. Kuchenreuther.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until a 7 p.m. vigil service Monday, April 24, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. Entombment will take place immediately following the Mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
