Leona Stankowski

Nov. 21, 1925 - April 26, 2006

Leona Stankowski, 80, of Weston, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at her home under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services, after losing her third battle with cancer.

She was born Nov. 21, 1925, in Waukesha, the daughter of the late James V. and Emily (nee Voboril) McGraw.

On October 2, 1948, she married Clarence "Casey" Stankowski in Waukesha. He preceded her in death Nov. 22, 1986.

For 24 years, Leona had been employed at Amron Corp., Waukesha, and later held positions with Dale's Super Value in Wausau, The Department of Aging in Wausau and most recently with Laidlaw of Weston. She was a devoted wife and loving mother who was an exceptional role model for her daughters. She enjoyed spending time with her family, spending summer weekends at Mayflower Lake and traveling. While a member of St. Adalbert Parish in Rosholt, she belonged to the Rosary Society, and was currently a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Wausau.

Survivors include her daughters, Susan (Henry) Kostuch of Cataula, Ga., Linda (Henry) Stanislawski of Rosholt and Mary (Brian) Bleyer of Stevens Point; five grandchildren, Joseph (Krista) Kostuch of Cataula, Adrian (Jill) Stanislawski of Duluth, Minn., Andrew Kostuch of Manhatten Beach, Calif., Aimee (Chad Petersen) Bleyer of Amherst and Abbi (J.C.) Garavet of Dale; four great-grandchildren, Kate Marie and Caroline Kostuch of Cataula, Bradley and Mason Garavet of Dale; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roderick McGraw, and sisters, Lorraine Riley and Phyllis Haizel, all of Waukesha.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, April, 30, at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth St., Wausau, with a parish rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation continues from 10:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. funeral Mass on Monday, May 1, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
