Frank J. Italiano

Frank J. Italiano, formerly of Waukesha, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, from Alzheimer’s disease at the Bethany Riverside Nursing Home in La Crosse. He was 90.

Born on Dec. 21, 1915, to Joseph and Mary Italiano, whose home was at 707 E. Main St., he grew up in Waukesha and graduated from Carroll College in 1938.

After serving in World War II as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, Frank taught high school band and orchestra at schools in Cashton, Richland Center, La Crosse and Onalaska, and music appreciation at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, passing on his love for music to all his students.

He was the founder of the La Crosse Youth Symphony, the Great River Festival of Arts, The Symphony of the Hills (Dodgeville), the Symphony School of America and the DaCapo Band in La Crosse. His Pleasoning seasoning business is about to celebrate its 55th anniversary.

He is survived by his wife, Lenore (nee Haefner), and their children, Dan, Ruth, Kathy and Frank Jr. Also surviving are his three children from a previous marriage to Doris Brennecke of Waukesha, Paul, Vicki and George; his 14 grandchildren; his 12 great-grandchildren; his brothers, George, Victor and Anthony; and his sister, Gloria Anzilotti.

Visitation was held Monday at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Ave. S., La Crosse. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 15, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2521 Ward Ave., La Crosse.
