David F. Sorensen

David F. Sorensen, 82, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at Avalon Square, where he resided with his wife, Jean. He was born in Hartland on March 16, 1924, to Frank and Viola (nee Mathisen) Sorensen.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, 276th Field Artillery Battalion, as an artillery mechanic and also the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II. On June 14, 1947, he married Jean (nee Wirth) Sorensen. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church for 37 years and was very involved in many aspects of the church. He had been employed at Wisconsin Electric for 36 years serving as troubleman for 18 years, then as district dispatch supervisor in southern and northern Metro divisions. He retired in 1985 as assistant superintendent of electrical operations at the Pewaukee Service Center.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Jean of Waukesha, and their five children, Lynn (James) Walter-Gibbs of Dousman, Susan (Michael) Schieber of Spring Grove, Minn., Pamela (fiance Kenneth Burnett) Williams of Jefferson, Jeffrey (Susan) Sorensen of Waukesha and Joan Sorensen of Madison. He is further survived by eight grandchildren, Karen Walter of Dallas, Brian (Angela) Walter of Seattle, Elizabeth (Michael) Ehr of La Crosse, Andrew Schieber of St. Louis Park, Minn., Jennifer Schieber of La Crosse, Greta (Adam) Pagel of Minneapolis, Nicholas Sorensen of Waukesha and Benjamin Williams of Milwaukee; two great grandchildren, Katelyn Doyle of Dallas and Valentine Pagel of Minneapolis; brothers, Donald (Ethel) Sorensen of Madison and Richard Sorensen of Lake Geneva; brother-in-law, Tom (Carol) Wirth of Hiles; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, June Hanisch, and grandson, David Schieber.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the 4 p.m. funeral service Friday, Dec. 15, at St. Johnﾕs Lutheran Church, 20275 Davidson Road, Brookfield. The Rev. David Meissner is officiating. Interment with full military honors will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Highland Memorial Park.
