Muriel Sotherland, 77, formerly of Waukesha, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at Our House Memory Care in Whitewater. She was born in Green Bay on May 30, 1929, to Ralph and Geraldine (nee Peck) Gardner.
Muriel was a 1951 graduate of Carroll College, earning her degree in teaching. She taught at Echo Glenn Elementary School from 1973 to 1979 and then at Heyer Elementary School until her retirement in 1987. She was a charter member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Paul (Pamela) Sotherland of Kalamazoo, Mich., Peter (Cathy) Sotherland of Hot Springs, S.D., John (Elizabeth) Sotherland of Whitewater, Amy Sotherland of Waukesha and Jim (Alicia) Sotherland of Laguna Hills, Calif. Her grandchildren, Peter Nathan Sotherland of Kalamazoo and Rebecca and Jennifer Sotherland of Hot Springs, will also miss her. She is further survived by her brother, Calvin (Mary) Gardner of Menasha; her sister, Audrey (Robert) Grundman of Neenah; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral Mass on Friday, Dec. 15, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., Waukesha. After cremation, burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in the spring.
