Severa M. Schamens

Severa M. Schamens of Waukesha died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2006, at LindenGrove at the age of 95. Severa was born Dec. 2, 1911, in Vernon County, the daughter of Charles and Mary (nee Vieth) Zietlow.

She was united in marriage to Ralph Schamens on Dec. 22, 1945, in Norwalk. She obtained a bachelorís and masterís degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and taught in various elementary schools for more than 35 years. Severa enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad. She also enjoyed doing craft work and was a fan of the Milwaukee Brewers. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Waukesha.

Severa will be sadly missed by her two sons, Gerald (Barbara Gates) of Mukwonago and Allen (Karen) of Waukesha; grandchildren, Julie (Mark) of Waukesha, Jason (Wendy) of North Prairie, Matt (Heather) Gates of Watertown, Mike (Susan) Gates of Eagle, Rhonda (Dan) Hough of Pewaukee and Cory Schamens of Milwaukee; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Austin, David, Alisun, Owen, Ben, and Steven; two sisters, Hazel Kohlhaas and Clara Williams; nieces and nephews; and family friend Mike Hurlock.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; daughter-in-law, Geraldine; four brothers, Carl Zietlow, Art Zietlow, Fred Zietlow, and Herb Zietlow; and one sister, Mabel (Gust) Lindahl.

A funeral service for Severa will be held Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at noon at Salem United Methodist Church, 541 Highway 59, Waukesha, WI 53188. The Rev. Joel Deaner-Rogers will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until the noon service at the church. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, New Berlin, immediately following the service.
