Elva Schmitz of Waukesha died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at home at age 91. Elva was born in Toeterville, Iowa, on Aug. 8, 1915, the daughter of Meta and John Baldner.
Elva moved from Iowa to Reedsburg, then to Washington and Texas before returning to Wisconsin. She married John J. Schmitz in 1951 and they moved to Wind Lake in 1954. Elva and John later moved to Arkansas in 1977 before finally returning back to Waukesha upon Johnﾕs passing in 1995. Elva was a devoted wife and mother, always putting others first.
Elva will be sadly missed by her sons, John (Jean) Schmitz of Dousman and Tom Schmitz of Belleville; her stepsons, Floyd (Mary) Schmitz and Jackie (Janet) Schmitz both of Palestine, Texas; grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan, Katie and Sara; sister, Lucille Babb of North Freedom; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Elva was preceded in death by her husband and sister, Rosina Schuette.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. funeral service Friday, Dec. 22, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 1205 S. East Ave., Waukesha, with the Rev. Peter Schmidt officiating. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, in St. Peter's Cemetery in Reedsburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Macular Degeneration Association, P.O. Box 531313, Henderson, NVﾊ 89053.
