Merilyn M. Cutsforth

Merilyn Mhrea Cutsforth, 67, of Cambria, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006.

Merilyn was born May 30, 1939, on the Walker homestead in Green Lake County, the daughter of Walter and Bernice (Loveland) Walker.

She was a 1957 graduate of Pardeeville High School. In March 1958, she was united in marriage to Earl Ashley, and they later divorced. On July 3, 1968, Merilyn was then united in marriage to Duane Cutsforth in Pardeeville.

Merilyn was a very giving and caring person and she dedicated many years of service to her community. She was a long-time Cambria Park Board member, a past village trustee, Girl Scout leader and EMT. At the time of her death, she was serving on the Cambria Plan Commission, community development authority, housing committee and as an election poll worker. Merilyn also was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cambria and was serving as a deacon.

Merilyn was always a hard-working woman. She worked various jobs in her lifetime but retired from the Columbia Healthcare Center in Wyocena, where she worked for many years as a certified nursing assistant.

Merilyn had many interests, including traveling to visit relatives and casinos with Dewey, as well as supporting her children and grandchildren in their many activities. She enjoyed gardening, camping, auctioning, collecting antiques, sewing, crafts, cooking and baking. She spent a lot of time taking care of her loving dog, Princess Molly. Merilyn had a great passion for cross-stitching and shared her beautiful creations with her loved ones.

Merilyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an incredible person who cared for everyone and never expected anything in return for her good deeds. She was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren, the kind of person they all hoped to be.

Surviving are her husband of 38 years, Duane Cutsforth of Cambria; her children, Cheryl (Ken) Jarvis of Waukesha, Tim (Denise) Ashley, Jeff (Barb) Ashley and Lois (Dave) Frank, all of Cambria; her stepchildren, David (Tammy) Cutsforth of Fall Creek and Jim (Barb) Cutsforth of Cambria; her grandchildren, Christopher and Elizabeth Jarvis, Dylan, Colt, Tricia and Charlie Ashley, and Justin and Melissa Frank; her stepgrandchildren, Lea, Patrick and Matthew Cutsforth; her brothers, Fred (Irma) Walker and Walter (Dorothy) Walker, all of Kingston; her sister-in-law, Barb (Ray) Bowdin of Rio; and her mother-in-law, Lillian Kubik of Wyocena. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and many dear friends. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Merilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Bernice Walker; her sisters, Lauretta and Pearl Walker, and Grace Bertram; her brothers, Gaylord, Harold, Melvin, Floyd, Erwin, Joe, Willard, Mike, Byron, Maurice, Merle and Lawrence; and her father-in-law Charles Kubik.

Funeral services for Merilyn will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church in Cambria, with the Rev. Kristin Frederich officiating. Burial will follow in the Cambria Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call on the family at the Kratz-Smedema Funeral Home in Cambria on Wednesday, Dec. 27 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and also at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.
