Ervin E. Keppen

June 10, 1906 - Feb. 6, 2006

Ervin E. Keppen of Whitewater, formerly of Mukwonago, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at Fairhaven Retirement Community in Whitewater. He was 99. Ervin was born in the town of Mukwonago on June 10, 1906, the son of Fred and Emma (nee Hause) Keppen.

On April 3, 1936, he married Ester Detlof in Mukwonago. Ester preceded him in death June 25, 2003.

Ervin retired as a supervisor for the Waukesha County Highway Department after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Johnís Evangelical Lutheran Church in Whitewater and an avid fisherman and gardener.

Survivors include his daughter, Carolyn (Duane) Handke of Burlington; a sister, Sylvia Blodgett of Hartland; three grandchildren, Brenda (Phil) Brueggemann of Elkhorn, Dawn (Mark) Reilly of Racine and Mike Buttke of Maine; two great-grandchildren, Brianna and Trevor Brueggemann; a sister-in-law, Caroline Hookstead of Whitewater; and other relatives and friends.

His parents and a daughter, Evelyn Keppen, also preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Feb. 8, at Schmidt & Bartelt-Van Valin Funeral Home, 315 Main St. (Highway ES), Mukwonago. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at the funeral home. The Rev. John Toppe will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Knoll Cemetery, Mukwonago.
