Adela Martinez was born Jan. 16, 1928, in Laredo, Texas. She passed on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, into ever-lasting life with our lord and savior, Jesus Christ. She was 78. Adela passed while valiantly fighting a lengthy illness. Strength was her epitaph.

Adela was preceded in passing by her mother, Josepha (Alderete) Gonzalez; her father, Arturo Gonzalez; her brother, Mario Gonzalez Sr.; her first husband, Francisco Martinez Sr.; her mother-in-law, Simona (Mata) Martinez; her father-in-law, Paulo Martinez; her beloved first born child, Maria Irene (Martinez) Ramirez; and brothers-in-law, Robert Martinez and Jessie Conejo.

Adela is survived by her second husband, Eulalio Canales; sisters, Lydia (Julian Donovan) Gonzalez of San Antonio and Laura (Ronald Garcia) Gonzalez of San Antonio; her daughters, Yolanda Martinez Tatolovich of Waukesha and Thelma (Timothy Migdal) Martinez of Dousman; her sons, Francisco Martinez Jr. (Annie Moncada) of Milwaukee, David Martinez (Connie Henderson) of Kenosha and Daniel Joseph Martinez of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, Felix Ramirez Jr. of Kenosha, Anthony Ramirez of Kenosha, Angela (Garcia) Ramirez of Kenosha, Paul Tatalovich of San Diego, CA., Christopher Tatalovich (Malia) of San Diego, Alexa Tatalovich of Waukesha, Thomas Migdal (Lisa) of Waukesha, Donald Migdal (Nikki) of Waukesha, Mandy (Jacob Hernandez) Martinez of New Berlin, Nicole (Fani Spyropoulos) Martinez of Milwaukee, Jamie Martinez of Oshkosh, step-grandson Justin Romaine (Annie Moncada), Melissa (Al Bower) Martinez of Kenosha, David Martinez Jr. of Kenosha, Justin Martinez of Kenosha, Jessica Martinez of Kenosha and Dylan Martinez of Kenosha; 10 great-grandchildren, Elisha, Ethan, Ella (Angela Garcia), Blaine, Tristan, Caileigh (Alexa Tatolovich), Gavin (Donald Migdal), Kelsey, Kendra (Mandy Hernandez) and Abby Rhode (Melissa Bower); sisters-in-law, Martha (Jessie) Conejo of Waukesha and Connie (Godfrey) Martinez of Laredo, Texas; nephews, Robert Conejo of Waukesha, Johnny Conejo of Indianapolis, Mario (Mary) Gonzalez Jr. of Laredo, Dr. Ronald (Dr. Melissa) Garcia Jr. of Silver Spring, Md., and Stephen Garcia of San Antonio; niece, Christy (Tim Engler) Conejo of Waukesha; foster children, Timothy Burnette and Connie Burnette of the Chippewa Nation; great-nephews, Marco Gonzalez and Mathew Garcia of Silver Spring; great-nieces, Julia Garcia of Silver Spring and Elisa Gonzalez of Laredo; and finally many friends and extended family in Wisconsin, Texas and Illinois.

A vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at The Angelus Funeral Home, 1119 N. St. Marys St., San Antonio, TX 78215. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 2829 Ackerman Road, San Antonio, TX 78219. Internment will take place Thursday at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
