WAUKESHA

Paula D. Barton

July 19, 1908 - Jan. 5, 2006

Paula D. Barton passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at age 96. She was born in Stambough, Mich., on July 19, 1908, to parents Mr. and Mrs. Emil Rachey.

She spent her early years in this area, and after graduating from high school went to Milwaukee to attend college. Following that period, she taught school for several years in Waukesha County.

Paula and Andrew Barton were married June 16, 1934, and lived all their married life on the Barton Farm in New Berlin on Barton Road, which was named after his family. Paula lived a very active life in that community as a member of the Prospect Ladies Aid, the New Berlin Senior Group and a longtime member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Waukesha, Sunday school and the senior group.

Though they had no family of their own, children were always welcome in their home, especially in the winter where there was skating on their pond. The boys who were very close to her were Kevin Ryback and Neil Williams. One or the other was often at their table, either for lunches or playing games.

Paula stayed in her home after Andrew’s passing in 1992, but after a short time she moved to Oak Hill Village in Waukesha to be near her close friend, Myrtle Thiesenhusen. Paula and Andrew had done some traveling and Andrew took part in a European trip planned for a Waukesha group by the government.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the noon services Monday, Jan. 9, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 300 Carroll St., Waukesha. Interment to follow at Prairie Home Cemetery.

Church and Chapel Funeral Home is serving the family. For more information, call 827-0659 or visit www.churchandchapel.com to view the online obituary, leave condolences or receive directions.
