Charles L. Gifford

Charles L. Gifford, 90, of Waukesha, died Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. He was born in Easton, N.Y. to Charles M. and Daisey (nee Townsend) Gifford on January 3, 1916.

In his earlier years he was involved with a small family dairy farm, was a harness horse racer in New York and was a member of the United States Trotting Association. In 1961, desiring a less transient lifestyle, he moved his family to Mukwonago and was employed by Holiday Farms as a caretaker. For nearly 30 years, Charlie worked at Olsenís Ace Hardware in Waukesha and will long be remembered by many customers and patrons.

He is survived by his son, Dr. Charles S. (June) Gifford, Ed.D. of Slidell, La; his sister Thelma Burk of Salem, N.Y.; his companion, Georgia Walther of Waukesha; and other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave. from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Services continue at the funeral home on Wednesday, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. before the funeral service.
