Anna D. Hughes

Anna D. Hughes of Waukesha died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc at age 76. She was born May 13, 1929, in Warba, Minn., the daughter of Charles and Leta (nee Selix) Vadnais.
Anna attended high school in Grand Rapids, Minn. She was store manager at Stop-N-Go on Grandview Boulevard in Waukesha for many years, and also worked as cafeteria manager at RTE (Cooper Industries) in Waukesha. She enjoyed bowling and was an active member of the Waukesha American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, D.J. Martin Post 8. She will be fondly remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Anna will be sadly missed by her children, Ellis "Buck" (Stephany) Hughes of Tomah, Chuck (Sue Hornburg) Hughes of Big Bend, Diane Sankey (friend Kenny) of Waukesha, Ric Hughes of Waukesha, Madge (Donald) Schaefer of Waukesha, William "Bill" (Lori) Hughes of Janesville and Ed (Joyce) Yamada of Waukesha, along with 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Isabella Madsen and Doloris "Dode" Oakley of Grand Rapids; sister-in-law, Orla Vadnais of Kewaskum; brother-in-law, Leroy Stippich of Waukesha; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Carl Joe Hughes; grandson, Donny "Moose" Schaefer; sisters, Rosella Huson, Eursula "Sid" Crowder and Delpha Stippich; and brothers, Joseph "Bud", Charles "Earl" and Thomas "Tom" Eugene Vadnais.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery.
