Edna M. Lay
Edna M. Lay, formerly of Hartland, passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at age 96.
Edna was born in Waukesha to parents Albert and Marie Yahnke, the youngest of 11 children. She moved to Hartland in 1945 to own and operate Auto Inn Tavern and in 1958 Ma Johnsonís restaurant. In 1967, she sold the restaurant and worked as a bookkeeper for Artos Engineering. After retiring, she worked as a bookkeeper at the Waukesha Humane Society until age 86. She was a 60-plus-year member of Our Saviorís Lutheran Church, 50-plus-year member of the Hartland Womenís Club and a 70-plus-year member of the Bridge Club. She was elected to the Hartland Grade School Board for 14 years and was an avid golfer, card player and reader.
Survivors include her children, Mary (Robert) Baehler of Mineral Point, Laurie (Roger) Krahn of Plainwell, Mich., and Thomas (Tracy) Lay of Pewaukee; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. "Bill" and 10 siblings.
A memorial service will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at Our Saviorís Lutheran Church, W299-N5782 Hwy. E in Hartland. Inurnment is at Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha. Friends may gather at the church on Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. until the time of the service. The Evert-Luko Funeral Home of Hartland is assisting the family and can be reached at 367-2156.
