William J. Knoebel Jr.

William J. Knoebel Jr., 83, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at LindenRidge in Mukwonago. He was born in Waukesha on Dec. 11, 1922, to William John and Mary Veronica (nee Carpenter) Knoebel.

William was a 1941 graduate of Waukesha High School and attended Carroll College for one year in 1942 and then enlisted in Army Air Corps. He served with the 400th Bombardment Squadron, 90th Bomb Group, in New Guinea, Philippines and Okinawa where he was an airplane armorer gunner from Aug. 2, 1943, to Jan. 11, 1946. He was employed as a truck driver for Hawthorne Melody, retiring in 1975. He then was employed in sales and service for a vending machine company. William was a member of St. Paulís Catholic Church in Genesee Depot.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth (nee Evans) Knoebel of Oconomowoc; their children, Patrick (Lori) Knoebel of Eagle, the late Robert Knoebel and Nancy (Edson) Rodrigues of Hollywood, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Breanna and Brett Knoebel of Eagle. He is further survived by his sister, Pauline Knoebel of Waukesha; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and son, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Mildred Inzeo, Alice Ritter, Jean Bowen and Gerry Knoebel.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha, with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Services continue Friday with prayers at the funeral home at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral procession to St. Paulís Catholic Church, highways 83 and D in Genesee Depot, for a 10 a.m. funeral Mass. The Rev. Robert Gosma will be officiating. Graveside services with full military honors will follow the Mass at St. Paulís Cemetery.
