Benjamin F. Vick

June 19, 1920 - Jan. 26, 2006

Benjamin F. Vick of Mukwonago passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. He was 85.

Ben was born June 19, 1920, at home on the family farm, which was located on Highway 83 and Highway X, Saylesville Road, in the town of Mukwonago. He was the sixth in a family of seven children born to Clarence J. and Kitty Mae (nee Funk) Vick.

Ben attended Stone School for eight years and at all times worked on the family farm. He then drove 5 miles to Mukwonago High School for four years, graduating in 1939.

He worked as a milk tester in the area, until joining the Army National Guard. He served for three years and then returned to the family farm to work until the farm was sold. He then went to work in Chicago for Bowman Dairy Co.

After he married Dora Kelsey on Sept. 13, 1942, in Dubuque, Iowa, they moved back to Waukesha. While in Waukesha, he worked for Hein-Werner, Quality Foundry & American Motors. He also ran drive-in restaurants in Waukesha and Mukwonago. In his later years, he was a counselor at Lad Lake in Dousman. Ben retired and had lived in Mukwonago for 30 years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #375, Mukwonago.

Survivors include his children, Victor (Kathy), Hope (Robert) Pettit, Dean (Jamie), Doreen Harris and Dolores (Phil) Mehling; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Patrick; a daughter, Margaret; three sisters, Violet Morris, Ethyl Kline and Helen Wallesverd; and three brothers, Raymond, Gilbert and Gordon Vick.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. Legion service Monday, Jan. 30, at Schmidt & Bartelt - Van Valin Funeral Home, 315 Main St. (Highway ES), Mukwonago. Cremation will follow with Benís ashes to be laid to rest at Oak Knoll Cemetery, Mukwonago, at a later date.

Memorials to American Legion Post #375, Mukwonago, or to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
