Thomas M. Smith

Aug. 8, 1937 - July 9, 2006

Thomas M. Smith, 68, a lifelong Waukesha resident, passed away July 9, 2006, at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was born Aug. 8, 1937, to the late Orlie W. and Florence D. (nee Merten) Smith. Although Tom worked in the graphic arts industry his entire life, Godís main calling for Tom was as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In May 2003, it was determined that Tomís lung cancer had come back. The doctors gave him six to 18 months. The Lord gave him and blessed his family with 38 months. During the time, Tom spent countless hours with his family and friends. He attended numerous birthday and graduation parties. Tom was an active participant in the weddings of his daughter and one of his sons, and he helped comfort his family through the death of his father and great-grandson, Stephen.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jacquiline (nee Billings) Smith of Waukesha; seven children, Mark (Pamela) of Rapid City, S.D., Eric (Barb) of Wauwatosa, Dann (Melissa) of Waukesha, Shellie (Roy) of Waukesha, Robb (Laura) of New Berlin, Joseph (Shanna) of Racine, Shawn (Charity) of Wauwatosa and his dear mother, Florence D. Smith of Waukesha. He is further survived by 18 grandchildren, Christine, Brandon, Leslie, Ashley, Brittany, Caryn, Megan, Miranda, Heather, Kylene, Emily, Gabriel, Isabelle, Brooke, Collin, Zachery, Justine and Christopher; one great-grandchild, Brianna, one sister and two brothers; the Rev. Charles (Helen) Smith of Saginaw, Mich.; Kate (Robert) Young of Denver and Andrew (Connie) Smith of Waukesha; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Orlie W. Smith, and great-grandson Stephen Jackson Smith.

Visitation and services will be Wednesday, July 12, 2006, from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service at Blessed Savior Lutheran Church, 15250 W. Cleveland Ave., New Berlin. Interment will take place at Prairie Home Cemetery on Thursday, July 13, 2006, at 11 a.m. Please meet at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave. for the procession to the cemetery at 10:15 a.m.
