Herbert H. Lamp

Herbert H. Lamp, 97, of Racine, formerly of Waukesha, died Friday, July 28, 2006, at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care in Racine.

Herbert was born Sept. 17, 1908, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Herman and Theodora (nee Hartung) Lamp.

Herbert was originally a farmer, then sold insurance for a few years before moving to Greendale to work at the Johnson Cookie Factory. He married Leone Olshefski in January 1935, and together they resided in Delafield. She preceded him in death.

In 1949, Herbert moved to Milwaukee, where he met Jessie Van Ripper (nee Button). They were united in marriage June 28, 1952, in Racine. Herbert returned to his love of farming, purchasing a farm in Hartland in 1956. Herbert also worked for A.O. Smith for 22 years, from 1950 to 1972, where he was a union steward for six years, was on the bowling team for 15 years and was a member of the Retiree’s Club since 1972. Since 2000, Herbert has resided with his daughter in Racine.

Herbert will be deeply missed by his children, Paul (Sharon) Lamp, David Lamp, Michael Lamp, Norma Timo, Charles Button, Shirley Zacharias and Nancy (Clyde) Adkins; his grandchildren, Terry (Dennis) Hardt, Ron (Penny) Timo, Jr., Mary (Thomas) Peterson, Norman Timo, Herbert (Julie) Timo, John (Karen) Zacharias, Jim (Terri) Zacharias, Linda Zacharias, Laura (Jim) Gaertner, Cheryl (Don) Cappelletti, Debbie (Dan) Rusch, Katie Lamp, Joseph Lamp, Dawn Lamp, Darrell Lamp, Daniel (Debbie) Adkins, Mike (Jennette) Adkins, Robert Adkins, Charles Adkins and Julie (James) Stephenson; great-grandchildren, Christopher Hardt, Patricia Timo, Stacey (Chris) Drier, Timothy Peterson, Thomas Peterson, Quentin Timo, Corrine Timo (Schrubbe), Cody Timo (Schrubbe), Dylan Timo (Schrubbe), Casey Staten, Cassandra Staten, Sarah Zacharias, Hannah Zacharias, Jacob Gaertner, Jennifer Gaertner, Tanya Rusch, Tracy Rusch, Troy Rusch, Tammy Rusch, Travis Rusch, Tasha Rusch, Colten Lamp, Brena Lamp, Amanda Adkins, Jessica Adkins, Joey Adkins, Destiny Adkins, Shawn Adkins, Dalton Stephenson, and Maranda Stephenson; three great-great-grandchildren, Robert Baker, Haley Adkins and Hannah Adkins; and one sister, Lillian Lamp.

Herbert is preceded in death by his wife, Jessie, in 2003; daughter, Bernice in 2006; sister, Louise Peterson; son-in-law, Ronald Timo, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Pat Button; granddaughter, Michelle Timo, and two grandsons, Clyde Adkins and Donald Adkins.

A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 822 N. East Ave., Waukesha, WI 53188, with the Rev. William Key officiating. Visitation will also be on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass at the church. Interment will immediately follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
