Ann C. Blau

Jan. 31, 1931 - June 1, 2006

Ann C. Blau, 75, of Highland, formerly of Waukesha, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, June 1, 2006. The former Ann McCarthy was born Jan. 31, 1931, in Highland Township, to George M. and Della C. (nee Imhoff) McCarthy.

Following graduation from Highland High School, she earned her bachelor of science in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. She taught for more than 40 years in both public and private schools, including the last 25 years in the Waukesha area. She retired to Highland in 1999.

Ann married Gerald Blau of Plain on Aug. 5, 1961, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Plain. He preceded her in death March 31, 1982. Ann was a member of St. William Catholic Church while in Waukesha and Sts. Anthony & Philip Parish in Highland. Ann’s greatest joy was time spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards, baking and growing flowers.

Ann is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Steve) Weber of Cascade, Iowa, and Sandy (Bob) Sickinger of Newton; five grandchildren, Jared Weber and Susanna, Emma, Bobby and Anthony Sickinger; three sisters, Patricia McCarthy of Highland, Eileen McCarthy of Highland and Bernadine Murvar of Brookfield; three brothers, Cletus (Virginia) McCarthy of Highland, Michael (Betty) McCarthy of Muscoda and Harold (Mel) McCarthy of Chilton; five sisters-in-law, Catherine (Tony) Hausner of Spring Green, Pat Blau of Plain, Marge Reeson of Mount Horeb, Betty Zins of Milwaukee and Sister Rita Blau of St. Louis; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Susan Blau; and a brother, George McCarthy Jr.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 4, at McGuire-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home, 544 S. Main St., Highland, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Monday, June 5, at Sts. Anthony & Philip Parish, 1011 Dodgeville St., Highland, with the Rev. Kenneth J. Frisch officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Waukesha.
