Amy Sue Bailey Bennett

Feb. 6, 1964 - June 14, 2006

Amy Sue Bailey Bennett, 42, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006.

She was born Feb. 6, 1964, and came to live with her mother June 5, 1964, to become the family’s much beloved daughter.

Amy graduated from Waukesha South High School and later received her degree in mass communications from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. After much soul searching, she finally seemed to have found a place for herself and went back to school in the developmental disabilities community services program at Western Wisconsin Technical College in La Crosse. Two years later, she received her certification and then worked with people who had developmental disabilities.

She loved this newfound field and remained involved until ill health took her from it. Amy also taught reading in the adult literacy program. Proficient in sign language, she could communicate with any deaf person whom she worked with or came in contact with in her daily life. She also spent several years working at Houghton’s on Jackson Street in La Crosse.

She is survived by her mother, Jacky Oldenburg, who will always keep her daughter in her heart; her brother, Jay Bailey; her very dear friend, James "Pat" Lyden; and her precious cats, whom were so dear to her.

She is predeceased by her most beloved stepfather, Allen W. Oldenburg; her dear friend, Stuart Best; and her grandparents, John and Irene Beck.

Funeral services were held in La Crosse.

La Crescent Funeral Home is serving the family. It can be reached at (507) 895-2286.
