Ila Schmidt, 81, a homemaker and retired accountant, passed away at her home Saturday, June 24, 2006. Ila was born June 18, 1925, in Coffeyville, Kan., to John and Viola (nee Wolford) Paulk.
Her first husband, Paul Miller, was a World War II pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was shot down and killed in 1944. On June 10, 1951, in Coffeyville, she married Dr. Claude Schmidt. He survives her. They lived in Waukesha until 1992, when they retired to Los Alamos, N.M. They moved to Wichita, Kan., in 2003 to be with their children, Greta (Christopher) Perleberg of Wichita, Martha (Robert) Asaph of Chilliwack, British Columbia, Karl (Norma) Schmidt of Lawrence, Kan., and Kurt (Laura) Schmidt of Wichita. She is also survived by a brother, John E. Paulk of Seabeck, Wash.; sisters, Selda Grauerholz of Coffeyville and June Barelli of Leawood, Kan.; and 10 grandchildren.
A memorial gathering with family and friends will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 2, in the Garden Chapel of Watson Funeral Home, 3201 S. Webb Road, Wichita.
